Autism New Jersey’s Annual Conference is one of the nation’s largest autism-related conferences, drawing record crowds of parents and professionals. Last year our conference attracted more than 1,200 attendees. We invite you to read the following Call for Papers information and consider submitting a proposal for the 2010 Conference.
Dates:
- The deadline for submission has been extended.
- Presenters are expected to be available for October 8th or October 9th, but if there are extenuating circumstances and you can only present on one of the days, you must include your request in the special request section of the submission form.
Notification:
-
The lead presenter will be notified of the status of the proposal by March 1, 2010 and, should the proposal be approved, the workshop date and time slot.
Process:
- Information should be completed by the lead presenter as he/she will be the contact person for all conference correspondence. Please carefully read all instructions, even if you have made a previous submission, as each year’s instructions may change.
- A confirmation letter stating that your proposal has been received will be sent to the lead presenter upon submission.A review committee comprised of professionals and parents will choose the presentations. Each proposal will be evaluated by at least three reviewers. For a list of committee members, please e-mail bwells@autismnj.org.
Workshop Details:
- Workshops are 90-minute sessions.
- You may request a two-part workshop, but Autism New Jersey will limit the number of accepted two-part presentations. Please note that if all the presenters listed are first-time presenters, then the workshop must be limited to only one session.
Workshop Content:
- Autism New Jersey is particularly interested in reviewing proposals that include empirical evidence and are targeted to an advanced audience. The committee is looking for workshops that instruct, inform and/or educate attendees about autism spectrum disorders and/or empirically validated treatments.
- Consistent with Autism New Jersey’s Position Statements on Treatment Recommendations and Information Dissemination, the agency will not accept applications on the following topics: Auditory Integration Training and other types of sound-based programs; Facilitated Communication; Psychoanalysis; Secretin; and any other interventions the agency deems unacceptable.
- Although proposals may refer to specific organizations, products or services, the presentations described must be topical in nature. Presenters may mention specific products or services only if they relate to the proposal.
- If you plan to discuss any commercial products or services during your presentation, you will be asked to sign a disclosure statement prior to acceptance. The lead presenter will be asked to explain the interest in or relationship with the manufacture(s) of any products or provider(s) of any of the services he/she intends to discuss.
Submission Requirements:
- A complete outline including time estimates in minutes for each section.
- Learning Objectives - you must state at least three learning objectives in behavioral terms that specify what the participants will do during the event or should be able to do after completing the event, rather than what the participants will “know” or what the instructor(s) will do. (For example, an objective stating that “participants will write the main behavioral effects and side effects of 6 widely used psychoactive medications” would be appropriate. Objectives stating that participants will “gain knowledge of psychoactive medications” or that the purpose of the event is to “provide an overview of the effects of psychoactive medications” would not be appropriate.
- If available, a copy of the Power Point slides you will be presenting.
- A 500-word summary succinctly specifying the learning objectives for the participants and the benefits of attending the presentation.
- If the workshop is a data-based presentation, please submit actual or anticipated results. Specifically, please provide a written summary of the intervention used, type of data you collected and how you analyzed that data. In this summary, please include a description of the participant(s)' behavior before, during and after the intervention. Anticipated results could be described in graphic/visual format or narrative.
- A bibliography, including references and resources, upon which the presentation is based.
- A brief description of the workshop (40 words or less) to be included in the registration brochure, including any prerequisite knowledge needed to attend the presentation. Please note that descriptions are subject to editing before print.
- A brief biographical sketch (50 words or less), mailing and e-mail address for each presenter. The biographical sketch should include relevant degrees and/or certifications. Please note that bios are subject to editing before print.
- A curriculum vitae (CV) or resume for each presenter listed on the proposal is required.
- If this will be your first time presenting at an Autism New Jersey conference, please submit at least one letter of recommendation from a supervisor (preferably) or someone very familiar with your work. The letter should designate the author’s relationship to the proposed presenter and include the author’s view of the presenter’s knowledge level of the proposed workshop topic, presentation skills and ability to manage an audience.
- If you are submitting a proposal that was rejected in previous years, please attach an addendum that specifically addresses how this proposal differs from the previous proposal.
