Are you interested in participating in a survey of parents’ experiences of having a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder? You will receive a $20.00 money order as a gift for participating. Saba Daneshyar, a student at New York University, is investigating the parental experiences of raising a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Graduate student in ABA is currently recruiting males over the age of 18 with a clinical diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome for a study to teach how to ask someone out on a date. All volunteers will be required to have their own transportation and must be able to come to Caldwell College (located in Caldwell, NJ) three to four times per week. Study Participation Criteria:

  • Must be over the age of 18
  • Must have official Asperger’s Syndrome diagnosis from an outside agency or clinic
  • Must have transportation and/or live in the NYC/northern New Jersey area
  • Minimal to no previous social skills training
  • Must have at least two to three unsuccessful previous attempts at asking someone out for a date.

Seeking parent or primary caregiver must be above the age of 18 years old and have a child between the ages of six to twelve years of age who was diagnosed by a psychologist or medical doctor as having Autism Spectrum Disorder. arent must be above the age of 18 years old and have a child between the ages of six to twelve years old who does not have any disabilities as classified by IDEA (2004). It includes autism, Deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, mental retardation, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairments, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, and a visual impairment, including blindness.
 
Study:
The purpose of this study is to gain a greater understanding of temperament- based parental approach to addressing the needs of each child. The research is comprised of three different phases in which parents will be asked to complete several surveys. Parents will be matched according to set criteria established for the research study. They will then be assigned to two groups. Some parents will be asked to implement specific parental strategies to address the needs of their child. This can take place in their home and community environment.  The research will last approximately two months.

Once results have been obtained, a thank you letter will be mailed to all the parents as well as $5.00 gift card to Barnes and Noble as an appreciation for participation in the study!

The Relationship Between Cultural Values and Treatment of Autism in Hispanic Families in the United States. Are you a Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish-speaking family member living with a child on the autism spectrum? Are you interested in taking an anonymous survey that addresses your concerns? The questionnaire addresses the effects of various cultural factors on attitudes, accessibility, and treatment of autism, as well as possible barriers which could interfere with the availability and accessibility of treatment. Coping with Autism: The Parental Journey of Adjustment
Parents with  a child with autism can contribute unique experiences, insights, and perspectives about parenting a child with autism by participating in one small focus group or an individual interview in January, February, or March 2010.  Location is to be determined based on convenience of participants. Eden Outreach WAWA House Social Skills Camp
Offering a 2 week social skills camp at our outreach-WAWA House location for children with autism age 5-8. Social Skills Camp will be led by an experienced Eden Staff member, supported by a trained assistant and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.  Children will be exposed to small group instruction focusing on language and social behaviors.  All activities will be goal focused and data based with a student/teacher ratio of 2:1.
The Program will run Monday through Friday 9:00 am -12:00 pm
